This was brought to my attention by Kristy Fussell from Blogging Diva. I was wondering if I could find out more about affiliate marketing so here goes my post about affiliate marketing with her guide in view!

The idea of affiliate marketing came about from a report that one of the top 10 schools in the United States was offering their marketing classes for free. An associate at one of the universities sent a query to a prominent accounting firm to find out if it was offering any of their courses for free.

I have been asked by other people about my experience with affiliate marketing so I thought that I would write a post about that and what I am doing with it. I would love to know if there is anyone else out there wanting to earn money from affiliate marketing as well!

Affiliate Marketing with blogs

I didn’t start off with affiliate marketing on blogs but instead had been doing some marketing on the blogging platform – WordPress.com. The big difference was that I did this just as a hobby and with that the blogging platform was a huge help with promotion. I am not someone that likes to sell a product on a blog that I own so I have been using affiliate marketing more with blogs that I belong to, review blogs and blogs that I like to read.

I have been marketing with blogs on both Google Adsense and Amazon and it just seemed to work much better on Amazon and Amazon was the gateway for me because it had more traffic on the platform.

Affiliate Marketing is basically marketing for other people on the blogging platform. As I said in my post on promoting other bloggers that I have seen an amazing increase in traffic on my blogs by marketing with affiliates. My husband has also seen a great increase in traffic by linking to other bloggers and earning an affiliate commission.

I do spend some of my time looking for blogs with affiliate opportunities and usually only choose the ones that seem to have a large number of comments on their posts. I try to get a few comments on each blog and post so that I can become an affiliate for that blog. I don’t think that I really have the ability to just link to a blog and say “Buy this”, as it would make me a link spinner and I don’t really want to do that and then see my blog get more traffic than my blog previously got.

I would rather link to blogs that I would like to read on a more regular basis and link to other blogs that I do read. I love comments on my blogs but I rarely get them so I don’t link to blogs that have not gotten a lot of comments. I just assume that they get plenty of comments and they are probably too busy to reply to it on a regular basis!
