Nofollow links + FF plugin:
No tracking tag of nofollow tag is becoming more and more famous these days. Therefore, there is a lot of misunderstanding about this term.
Created by Matt Cutts (surprise) and Jason Shellen, the nofollow-tag topic is flooding all SEO and Blogging forums.
One of the main issues for new bloggers or even some SEOs is what are the benefits of adding nofollow tags?
Nofollow tags tell the Google robot not to follow a particular link, therefore, the Google robot will not be able to follow it… NO! Wrong.
Nofollow tags simply prevent a link from getting a linker vote, therefore no Pageranks will be transferred throughout the link.
But in fact, the link will be followed and explored by the spider. In addition, the site will be indexed.
That’s why people don’t see any difference between nofollow and noindex. Let me give you some examples.
<a href=”[insert website url here]” Make money blogging</a>
Normal link. The spider can follow, crawl, index and transfer Pagerank to the location. You’re simply language “Hey, i do know this website, there’s no downside with it 🙂 “
Folks square measure confused this as a result of the no index tag, that may be a completely different attribute that, this time, tells Google larva to not index a page or a website, as Associate in Nursing example:
<meta name=”robots” content=”noindex” />
But links will be followed, so how to avoid passing a vote and not indexing?
<meta name=”robots” content=”noindex, nofollow” />
So why would you want to use nofollow tags?
When the information is unnecessary for an Internet crawler or cannot be crawled, or when you do not wish to be “associated” with the page to which you are linking.
For example, if you have a registration form or if you are going to link to questionable content.
So what are the benefits? Protection. You protect yourself when you link to questionable content, avoiding penalties. You don’t want to put nofollow tags all over the place, just if you’re not sure which site you’re linking to.
Additional content:
Yesterday I wrote an article on how to increase Pagerank. If you’ve figured out how nofollow works, you might have guessed that indexing your blog to directories that don’t have nofollow tags won’t send you any Pr. In addition to checking the source code and looking for tags nofollow, you can download this Firefox plugin which automatically highlights you whether there is a nofollow or not.
